X – Ray Coccyx AP View is used to show the most distal region of the spine in a lateral position. It is used in conjunction with the AP projection. It is used to show sacrum and coccyx anatomy, and to investigate the cause of coccyx pain.The coccyx, also known as the tailbone, is a small, triangular bone resembling a shortened tail located at the bottom of the spine. It is composed of three to five spinal bones.

This test is prescribed by the doctor in caseThe coccyx may be fractured when a person falls abruptly on his or her buttocks, and the coccyx may be fractured . In extreme cases, the coccyx may need to be surgically removed. This procedure is called a coccygectomy.
