Test Criteria
X – Ray Chest Left LAT Decubitus View is a test to visualise the structures of the chest wall which includes the collar bone, breastbone, ribs, shoulder blade and surrounding muscles. It also helps to visualise the internal organs of the chest which includes the lungs, airways, heart, food pipe and diapragm. Decubitus indicates that the patient is lying down , the central ray is horizontal and parallel with the floor.
It is most often used to demonstrate the presence of air-fluid levels or free air in the chest and abdomen.
This test is prescribed by the doctor to diagnose any suspected birth defects of the structures of the chest wall or the internal organs of this area and diagnose any injury or fractures of the bones of the chest wall.
